There is a boy who runs away to kowloon with cook and gardener and the boy starts living a Chinese life with the chinese gardeners family while there is war going in Hong Kong the gardener gets ill and have to go to chinese doctor and try and get some medicine before it is to late.

I hoped that Nicholas's parents were all right and I hoped that he would not get captured by the Japanese.

I felt a bit sorry for her because of all of the jobs she has to do every day.

I felt very scared when he was ill because medicine was rare in Hong Kong when he got ill .
I think one of the significant things were when he found out what a chinese boys life.
Another significant thing is that Chinese people do when go to there ancestors grave for example they cut duck and give it to there ancestors and the rest they eat themselves.
The family showed Nicholas how they did there prayers.
